 If you ask someone what their favorite part of Magic Kingdom is, chances are they’ll name an attraction.

The obvious winners are usually Haunted Mansion (a classic, duh!), or the excitement of Space Mountain… and of course, there’s Cinderella Castle and its picturesque view.

For me, though, my favorite place at Magic Kingdom has always been a little different.

It’s Main Street, U.S.A.

When I visited Walt Disney World for the first time, I wasn’t thinking about the details of the buildings or taking my time to appreciate everything around me. I was a kid walking into Disney for the very first time, and I was focused on one thing: seeing everything I had dreamed about.

My First Visit to Main Street, U.S.A.

My first Disney trip was 25 years ago when I was 12 years old. I was raised in a suburb of Montreal, and not many of my peers visited WDW. I knew this trip was special!

At that age, I didn’t really understand everything that went into planning a Walt Disney World vacation, especially when you’re traveling from Canada. I didn’t think about the flights, the logistics, or all the little details that had to come together to make the trip happen.

I just knew we were going to Disney and honestly, that’s a special feeling all in itself.

I still remember walking onto Main Street, U.S.A. for the first time and seeing Cinderella Castle at the end of the street. There’s something about that first view that stays with you. You can see photos of it, watch videos of it, and hear other people talk about it, but experiencing it yourself is completely different.

Why Main Street, U.S.A. Feels Different From the Rest of Magic Kingdom

Main Street, U.S.A. is the epitome of a Walt Disney World vacation because it’s exactly where the excitement starts building.

If you stop and observe your surroundings, there’s just so much magic to Main Street. On that strip alone you spot families taking their first photo in front of the castle, you smell the sweetness coming straight out of Main Street Bakery, you hear the music, and you feel this incredible rush (perhaps the rush of people rope-dropping their preferred attraction). On top of it all, it’s where kids realize they’re finally standing inside the place they’ve been dreaming about.

The feeling of Main Street is truly unmatched.

How My Love for Main Street Changed Over the Years

One of the funniest things about looking back at my first Disney trip is realizing how much my perspective has changed.

When I was 12, I didn’t stop to appreciate the things I love about Main Street today. I didn’t know that years later, I would be the person wanting to slow down instead of rushing toward the next attraction.

I’ve returned to Disney with my sister, with friends, with extended family, and now with my own children. Every trip has looked different because every season of life has been different.

There’s something comforting about returning to a place that’s been part of your life for so long. So much has changed over the past 25 years, yet Disney still has a way of holding onto that same sense of nostalgia.

Why I Think Everyone Should Slow Down on Main Street

One thing I’ve learned after visiting Disney at different stages of my life is that some of the best moments aren’t the ones you plan… they’re absolutely the moments that happen in between.

When I was younger, I wanted to fit as much as possible into every Disney day. Now, I understand that slowing down is part of the experience.

I am now at a stage in my life where I want to live slowly. I want to experience every moment with intention and trust me when I say: I am so intentional when I walk down my favorite part of Magic Kingdom.

Main Street will always have a piece of my heart. It truly feels like my second home.
